Grants up for grabs for Wyre Groups

COMMMUNITY groups across Wyre are being urged to apply for grants from local county councillors to fund any projects they may be planning for 2011.

Applications for the 2010/11 county councillor grants scheme are still open to all community, voluntary and faith sector groups.

So far, grants have funded a variety of projects including music festivals and young people's groups in Fleetwood, drama groups in Wyreside and tennis groups in Garstang.

More than £3,900 has been handed out since April this year across the borough, but there is still funding available. Wyre groups are being urged to put their applications in as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

County Councillor Albert Atkinson, deputy leader of Lancashire County Council, said: "County Councillor grants fund community group activities which can make a huge difference to people's quality of life.

"This could be anything from social groups for older people, to activities for scout groups. You can fund any activity, as long as it fits in with our councillor grants guidelines and makes a genuine difference to people's quality of life.

"There is still funding left to provide grants in Wyre. I would encourage anyone interested in applying to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
