Four day Health Impact Assessment training course, conducted by IMPACT, the International Health Impact Assessment Consortium.

As a result of the needs identified during a recent consultation, we invite you to attend a four day Health Impact Assessment training course, conducted by IMPACT, the International Health Impact Assessment Consortium. Training courses are fully funded by the North West Strategic Health Authority (NHS Northwest) through the North West Health Impact Assessment Capacity Building Programme (for more information on the programme please visit: www.nwhia.org.uk).

Who is the seminar for?
Practitioners from the NHS, Local Government and the Third Sector working in the fields of public health, health and social care, socio-economic issues, environmental issues, sustainability, transport, planning, housing and regeneration.
Why should you attend?

The Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Directive (2001/41/EC) explicitly refers to the need to consider the effect of developments on human health. The White Paper, 'Our health our care our say' (DH, 2006) advocates for HIA to be used as a tool in making commissioning decisions for health and social care, as does 'Health inequalities – progress and next steps' (DH, 2008). HIA can also support Local Area Agreements and form part of the evidence presented for the Comprehensive Area Assessment. HIA is being used in all Government departments as part of the revised Impact Assessment process to build ‘healthy public policy’.

• become a local champion of HIA in your organisation
• consider HIA case studies
• make decisions on when an in-depth HIA should be commissioned
• determine how and when to commission, guide and evaluate HIAs
• consider different approaches to HIA
• gain an understanding of the objectives and limitations of a specific HIA method
• investigate the practical processes involved in undertaking an HIA
• network with others in relation to HIA
• gain and develop an understanding of HIA policies, procedures and methods
