Fair Trade in Wyre Event

Fairtrade has always been high on the agenda for Wyre. As the home of the world’s first Fairtrade town, we understand the need to promote a fair deal for third world producers. We now want to explore whether there is potential for a group who will lead in ensuring that Wyre becomes a Fairtrade Borough. The steps to win Fairtrade Borough status are set out by the Fairtrade Foundation, and we hope to gain this status for Wyre by the end of 2010. But we need your help. The Council cannot do this alone. Neither can the Strategic Partnership. This needs to be a campaign involving the communities of the Borough. We need your help. The first step is to meet and establish a committee. To do this I am hosting a meeting at Poulton Methodist Church. This will be held as follows: Date Tuesday 2nd March Time 7.30 pm Venue Main Hall, Methodist Church, Queensway, Poulton-le-Fylde. The evening will allow us to sample some Fairtrade tea, coffee and other refreshments.

Energy Saving Loans for Farmers Announced

The loans are designed to pay for themselves through direct energy savings provided over one to four years. After the loan is repaid, farmers will make direct savings on their energy costs, as well as cutting the carbon footprint of what they produce. The aim is to cut energy bills by a total of £4 million, and 25,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, using interest-free loans from the Carbon Trust.
