Lancashire residents can start saving money on their electricity bills
The Government is developing plans that will see millions of smart energy meters installed in housholds before 2020. But Lancashire County Council, in partnership with twelve district councils, is already operating a FREE energy monitor loan scheme.
The energy monitors, available to borrow via the county council's libraries, are simple to install and will show people where electricity is being used in the home. The monitor displays the amount of electricity being used to power lights and electrical appliances.
County Councillor Tim Ashton, Cabinet member for planning and environment, said "Knowing what is costing you money can help you lower your electricity bill. Just turning a few lights off as you leave the room and reducing the number of appliances on standby can lower your home electricity bills by 5-12% per year."
Julie Paton, Environment Officer, said, "Energy monitors are a great way of knowing how much electricity you are using around the home. Using the monitor can halp you better manage your electricity consumption, which will not only reduce your carbon emissions but more importantly save you money."
