Press Release for Wyre Pensioners website
Pensioners in Wyre now have the chance to go silver surfing thanks to a brand new website launched specially for them.
The Wyre Pensioners Forum website, located at www.mywyre.co.uk/wpf, is dedicated to providing older people across the borough with the latest, advice and guidance on issues important to them. The site also provides a 'What's On' guide of relevant local events and stages on line forums where visitors have the chance to discuss topical issues with each other.
The site has been created by the Forum with the help of Wyre Borough Council, who have provided computer training for its members and given assistance in producing the website format and some of the content for the site.
Wyre Borough Council Leader Councillor Russell Forsyth said: "The launch of the website clearly shows that modern communication methods like this can be available to all members of the community. Hopefully it will provide an additional platform for older people in Wyre to promote the issues that are important to them."
Paul Deacon, Community Engagement Officer with Wyre Borough Council, said: "We have been working closely with the Pensioners Forum for some time and when they showed an interest in launching a website we were keen to provide as much assistance to them as we could.
"This is an excellent way for older people in the borough to find out about issues which affect them, share their views with others and become more aware of what is available from the internet."
Tony Ward, Chairman of the Wyre Pensioners Forum, said: "What we hope to do with the site is give people an insight into what is good about living in Wyre and help with some of the activities they can be doing in the borough.
"It will also hopefully give older residents an additional platform to communicate with each other and provide some interesting debate on issues that affect them. We hope then in some cases to take those issues forward through the Pensioners Forum Group.
"We would also stress that you do not need to be a member of the Pensioners Forum to use the website - everyone is welcome to log on, including older people from outside Wyre."
