Free Loft and Cavity Wall Insulation for the Over 70's
A new government initiative, just announced, will enable the over 70s to benefit from free loft and cavity wall insulation so tackling fuel poverty and reducing carbon emissions.
The Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) requires energy suppliers to help reduce carbon emissions in homes by offering free energy efficiency measures for those defined as vulnerable. Free energy saving measures were previously only available for those in receipt of disability or income based allowances - it has now been extended to the over 70s - regardless of income.
According to the Office of National Statistics, there were 22,300 excess winter deaths of older people in 2006/07, with one in three elderly people living in homes with inadequate heating and insulation. Wyre's excess winter death figures are amongst the highest in Lancashire.
If you are in contact with the over 70s (be they clients, relatives, neighbours) please spread the word - with our high population of older persons this initiative offers a major opportunity to improve the living conditions of some of our most vulnerable residents.
