Social Networking

networkingNot too long ago an American university student hit on a simple way of meeting people and forming friendships based on shared likes and dislikes.
He created a simple internet site that allowed students to introduce themselves, listing hobbies, favourite music, movies and TV, an  online diary if they wished and shared photos.
Other students having looked at this information  could then decide whether they wished to be included as a friend and likewise share their information.

In this way networks of friends were formed based on shared interests leading to social activity both on and off the net and hence the term social networking site was born.
After some time these ideas crossed over to the wider world and Facebook was launched.
A recent survey shows that Facebook has 62 million members spread across the globe  closely followed by Bebo with 40 millon.
