Alcohol Related Incidents Cost NHS £2.5 Billion
As alcohol related incidents soar above £2 billion each year, isn't it time something drastic was done to stop the responsible taxpayer footing the bill for loutish behaviour up and down the UK.
Often abusive, regular drunken visitors to our hard working accident and emergency departments should be made to pay for treatment received when the injury or sickness is the result of excessive alcohol.
The latest figures show that the cost of providing care for this drunken bunch has soared to over £2 billion per annum which is costing the taxpayer dearly.
I was so incensed by this that I have today, emailed Ben Wallace MP & Joan Humble MP to ask for their assistance.
Dear Ben
I was horrified to learn that drink related incidents are costing the health service over 2 billion per year.
This problem is getting worse by the year and I am amazed that the only action the government is taking is to label alcoholic drinks with information as to the units of alcohol contained therein.
When holidaying abroad travelers loose their sickness and injury insurance cover should alcohol be found to be the cause of the incident, taking the view that alcohol related injuries are no accident.
Surely the government should take steps to follow this most sensible approach when cost is deemed to be the results of incoherence and recoup the expenditure of hospital treatment from the person responsible.
It is time to take a much harder line on the whole alcohol abuse subject which must be government led in order that we may follow this through at council level.
Can I urge you to put my views forward at every opportunity and stop our hard working well behaved tax payers from footing the bill of the irresponsible.
Kind regards
Mike
