About Me

pete murphyI was born and bred in Manchester, moved to Blackpool as a teenager and then on  to London for work in catering. I then returned to Blackpool and joined the police. This caused me to move about the county, first to Bacup, then back to Poulton before landing in Garstang in the early Eighties. I retired from the police in 2006 and could then be open about my interest in politics. In May 2007 I was elected for Brock Ward which enabled me to continue to look after the patch as I had done for the previous 20 years.

As well as your local councillor, I am currently employed as a boatmaster, in charge of a party boat on the lancaster canal. This is a somewhat slower pace of life , cruising along at 3 mph, instead of blue lighting through the village in the police van.

During my term in office I will always listen to the views of the local people but you must remember that there are always two sides . Nothing showed this more than the recent planning decision for the Royal Lancashire Show. A group of residents were very vocal in their objections to the show. As I canvassed other locals it became apparent that most people were not against it. When the plans came up for decision the anti's were disappointed that permission was granted. I hope , just as they do, that the show doesn,t cause major disruption to the area and it becomes a great asset to the area. This is a similar story to Barton Grange which has opened with great success and minimal disruption to village life.

One of my other hats is that of chairman of Brock Station Trust. The trust owns the land to the rear of James Edwards of Brock. We have transformed a waste land into a very nice area of land with pond, orchard, wild flower area and picnic area on the way. Go and have a look and see what is happening for your benefit.
