About Me
I was born and brought up in Fleetwood and have lived in the town for most of my life. My parents lived on Bold Street where my mother's parents had lived. My father was brought up at the Bourne Arms Hotel in Knott End and then came to Bold Street when he married my mother.
After completing my national service, I lived for a short spell in Preston having married Margot, my wife and practised there as a solicitor. But after only 18 months I was approached to become manager of J Marr and Son Ltd on Dock Street which brought me back to the town.
I've been fortunate enough with my training and experience to be able to help people, in particular fisherman and their families with claims for compensation, etc. Now, having been appointed a councillor for Warren Ward, I find that the job, taken seriously, is almost a full time occupation and I try to treat it as such.
What I most love about Fleetwood is the people - in particular the many lasting friendships I have made over the years. I enjoy talking to people, particularly former fishermen about the remarkable times we all enjoyed working in the industry. Also in the 50s, 60s and early 70s, Fleetwood was a very prosperous place with a great community. My favourite part of Fleetwood is the promenade. It's second to none in Lancashire.
I believe that Fleetwood's employment prospects are good if the correct moves are made to attract industry and more retailing. I am personally fighting hard with the fish processors to relocate their vitally important business onto Copse Road.
